BlackBerry Storm 9500 Review - Can the 'Storm' Give the iPhone a Run for Its Money?

Posted by searchaphone 25 May,2009

Technology has definitely come a long way.  Let's take the BlackBerry wireless handheld devices as an example.  Years ago, when you see a bulky handheld with a black body and a QWERTY keyboard, it is immediately recognizable as being a BlackBerry.

Today, there are a good number of BlackBerry handheld devices which are available – the latest of which is the BlackBerry Storm 9500. A 'sister' product in this line of handhelds manufactured by RIM or Research in Motino is the BlackBerry Storm 9530.

What makes the BlackBerry Storm 9500 and BlackBerry Storm 9530 different from the original BlackBerry handheld devices is the fact that 9500 and 9530 completely veered away from the QWERTY keyboard which has become almost their signature – and went on to develop a touchscreen smartphone.

Developing direction:
A.    Special User Interface
iPhone’s UI is simple and delicate, and “iPhone killers” have their own special UIs and operating ways. Simple, convenient, brilliant user interfaces are always smart phones’ selling point.
B.    iPhone’s App Store is thought to be the most mature commercial software platform. Android Market develops very fast. However, Windows Mobile, Symbian S60 and Blackberry haven’t built their software shop online so far. Symbian’s signature is a bother. There is no doubt that in the future easy software downloading and online shop are the trend.

It seems that these iPhone killers’ batteries are not better than iPhone’s. Fortunately their battery can be changed. We tested their theoretical battery life which is awarded 4’ and practical performance which is awarded 6’. Nokia 5800 XpressMusic takes the first place.

Add-ons (10’)
In this contest the hardware equipment is not valued. However, data link and some hardware equipment still need our attention. In terms of data link we compare their data interface, flash memory, expansion slot, earphone slot, GPS, camera and speaker. HTC Touch HD gets the highest mark – 7’.
